Shadow Work Tarot Spread
"Shadow work" means turning toward the parts of yourself you usually hide, suppress, or dislike — not to punish yourself, but to understand and integrate them. Tarot is a gentle mirror for this, giving the shadow a voice through images so it's easier to face. This six-card spread does exactly that.
Shadow work can bring up strong emotions. Choose a calm, private moment, be kind to
yourself, and if difficult feelings surface, consider talking with a therapist. Tarot is for reflection, not
a substitute for mental-health care — see reading responsibly.
The six positions
- The shadow's face — what part of yourself are you avoiding right now?
- Its root — where did this pattern begin?
- The trigger — what situations bring it out?
- The fear — what is it trying to protect you from?
- The gift — what strength is hidden inside this shadow?
- Integration — how can you accept and work with it?
Read each card honestly, then journal what comes up — the tarot journal is ideal for this. Reversed cards often point to exactly what's being suppressed. Take your time; you don't have to resolve everything in one sitting.
